Gary Coleman & Shannon Price Getting Divorced
Former Diff'rent Strokes star Gary Coleman revealed several months ago that he secretly married his 22-year-old girlfriend Shannon Price last August. The 'love at first sight' relationship quickly degraded into a slew of marital problems. Now, 40-year-old Coleman and his young bride are headed to Divorce Court to settle their differences.
According to OK! Magazine, Coleman and Price met on the set of the 2006 comedy film Church Ball, which featured the story of a church basketball coach on a quest to win the championship for his underdog team. Coleman and Price secretly wed on August 28, 2007 in a small, private ceremony in Nevada. The marriage took place on Price's 22nd birthday.
Coleman told Inside Edition the wedding ceremony took place on a mountaintop with only "the minister, preacher, the videographers, the photographer, the helicopter pilot and us."In the Inside Edition interview, Coleman also revealed his relationship with Price was his first with anyone. "I never got the opportunity to be romantic or feel romantic with anyone," Coleman said. "I wasn't saving myself, she just happened to be the one."
However, right from the start of the marriage, trouble was already brewing between the couple. Price told Inside Edition, according to the New York Post, that "[Gary] lets his anger conquer him sometimes. He throws things around, and sometimes he throws it in my direction." Price added that when Coleman gets upset, "I don't like the violence." BittenandBound.com reported that Price said the couple fought all the time and police have been called to their disputes several times. Now, only 8 months after their marriage, Coleman and Price are headed down the rocky road to divorce. In true Hollywood fashion, the couple has decided to duke it out in front of a television audience. The couple is set to appear on Divorce Court on May 1 and 2 to have their case heard by Judge Lynn Toler.
Both Coleman and Price have admitted to a string of "ugly" fights in their relationship. In a transcript from the upcoming episodes, Price said that if Coleman "doesn't get his way, he throws a temper tantrum like a five-year-old does," according to the Associated Press.Coleman states in the transcript from the show that he is tired of the male always being the "bad guy" and when he tries to "state my case or explain things to her or try to get her to uderstand my point of view, my point of view doesn't matter."
