Tonight’s special guests for Elimination Night for American Idol Season 8 Top 9 were the reigning American Idol David Cook and Lady Gaga. David performed his single “Come Back to Me” and it’s a beautiful song. His debut album has gone platinum - wow!
The Idol wannabes in the Bottom 3 were: Megan Joy Corkery - who flung her arms in the air as if she were flying over to take a seat. What a kooky girl! Allison Iraheta - who told host Ryan Seacrest she’d wear her spiky hair again. I think she made it to the bottom 3 because of what the judges said about her appearance. That’s too bad since it should be more about the overall performance. Anoop Desai - who said he had a feeling he was in the bottom 3 after watching the performances back last night.
Lady Gaga performed her number one single “Poker Face” - what a production! She looked a lot older than 23 on that stage tonight, but it was quite entertaining.The Idol wannabe who received the lowest number of votes and therefore given the boot was: Megan Joy Corkery - I guess VFTW didn’t come thru for her. I’m relieved! Her singout performance was very strange - the dancing doesn’t help her at all. It’s nothing to look forward to for the folks who are going to be paying for this season’s Idol tour tickets.
David Cook reportedly is planning to propose kimberly Caldwell during the holidays. The "American Idol" winner is claimed to have been looking for the perfect ring to be given to his leading lady.Per Star magazine, David is keen to present Kimberly with an extravagant 2-carat diamond and platinum ring from Tiffany's when he pops the question. The gem, still according to Star, costs $54,000.
"He's not used to spending that kind of money on jewelry, so he needs to give it some thought," so read a quote in this week's issue of Star. At press time, there hasn't any comment from David, Kimberly, or their people concerning the engagement report.
David Cook is recognized as the winner of the 7th season of hit singing competition "American Idol." Before dating Kimberly Caldwell in May this year, he had no hesitation to make public his love for the former "Idol" contestant, asking her to go out on a date on the TV Guide Network."I'm just excited because I finally get to talk to you," he told her during an interview on the Idol Tonight show in late May. "I've been hearing you say all these nice things about me all season, So I'm actually going to ask you to dinner right now."
Activision is pulling out all the stops for the October 26 release of Guitar Hero: World Tour with some Risky Business-inspired ads featuring well-known celebrities. Each ad will feature the rich and famous dancing about in their underpants and doing their best Tom Cruise impression to Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock and Roll" while playing different World Tour instruments or lip-syncing.
Debuting today, the first commercial features sports stars Kobe Bryant, Alex Rodriguez, Michael Phelps, and Tony Hawk "jamming" in a form reminiscent of the first "Risky Business" Guitar Hero ads starring American Idol alumni David Archuletta and David Cook.
Directed by Brett Ratner (X-Men: The Last Stand), these commercials were apparently produced to inspire everyone to "unleash their inner rock star." Ratner explains: "With the first Risky Business ads we wanted to excite fans by combining two pop culture sensations to create something even bigger. Those commercials were such a hit with Guitar Hero fans we decided to give them the same iconic 'living room rock star' moment they love, but as experienced with the new full band version of the game and with an entirely new cast of characters."
Activision and Ratner have no plans to stop there, though. According to Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, we can expect more commercials featuring actors and, uh...supermodels: "To appeal to the multi-generational Guitar Hero fans out there we tapped a wide range of athletes, actors, and even supermodels to unleash their inner rock stars and live out their rock and roll fantasies."
Supermodels. Yeah. For some reason I just cannot see someone like Tyra Banks or Heidi Klum playing Guitar Hero in real life, but then again commercials like these are pure fantasy.See Guitar Hero Commercial here.
David Cook performed his first new single ‘Light On’ last night on Saturday Night Live.Last year’s American Idol winner, David Cook, was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live last night. He performed his new single “Light On” and seemed to be really comfortable doing that grungy power ballad. His voice sounded terrific and his band was great too!
Chris Cornell of Audioslave and Soundgarden co-wrote “Light On” with Brian Howes, who also has penned material for Daughtry, Puddle of Mudd and Oklahoma City rockers Hinder.
His second SNL performance was “Declaration,” the opening track of his upcoming album. It sounded much more David Cook-like to me…somewhat big and anthemy rock. Now I’ve just got a few more resources. I don’t feel like the show changed me at all.”

David Cook, the scruffy bearded, raspy-voiced 25-year-old from Blue Springs, Missouri, was crowned the latest American Idol Wednesday, in a surprise result at the year-old, 7,000-seat Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.The result came as a surprise to many observers and onlookers after Idol judges Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell all but handed the title Tuesday to Cook's rival and finalist in the competition, 17-year-old David Archuleta.In its seventh season, "American Idol" has grown from a cheesy summer talent show into a pop culture phenomenon that draws millions of viewers to News Corp's Fox network at least twice a week. It has produced mega-stars from both its winners and losers, including Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Chris Daughtry.
The fans who vote for Idol saw it differently however, and the vote tally swung in Cook's favour, possibly because of his maturity and old-soul rocker vibe. Some reviewers also suspected a backlash among voters against the judges' comments, which seemed to unfairly favour Archuleta.A record 97 million votes were cast overall, 23 million more than American Idol's previous high. In the end, Cook won by a relatively wide margin, 56% to 44%, or 12 million votes.
Idol host Ryan Seacrest seemed genuinely startled as he read the results, shortly before the scheduled end of the two-hour live broadcast.Cook smiled, put his arm around Archuleta and gave him a consoling squeeze. Archuleta was gracious in defeat, and seemed genuinely pleased that Cook won.Ironically, although Archuleta was the younger competitor, Cook's song choices reflected a more contemporary sound. Cook's song choices ranged from ‘90s Our Lady Peace and Collective Soul to Aerosmith and U2, while Archuleta stayed within his comfort zone of ballads, including Phil Collins, Elton John and John Lennon.
Cook made good use of a new wrinkle in American Idol's rules this year: the allowing of musical instruments. Cook performed many of his songs while playing acoustic and electric guitar. Musical instruments have been a regular fixture for several seasons now on Canadian Idol.Ironically, Cook never intended to audition for Idol. He accompanied his younger brother Andrew to an audition in Omaha, Neb. and was talked into applying himself. He performed Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer", and was vaulted through to the next round. At the Hollywood auditions, Cook performed Bryan Adams' "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" and Edwin McCain's "I'll Be."
He caught the judges' attention and became a serious contender after he performed Chris Cornell's arrangement of the Michael Jackson standard Billie Jean, in a performance program in March.Cook then went on to perform songs by The Who ("Baba O'Riley"), Switchfoot ("Dare You To Move") and Emily Shackleton ("What I'm Looking For").Cook is not entirely new to the music scene. He formed a garage band, Axium, in 1999, and was its for six years. One of the band's songs was picked up by the AMC Theatres movie chain in the U.S. and played on more than 20,000 screens during trailer previews.Check out American Idol video here.
"You came out here to win and what we have witnessed was a knockout," said judge Simon Cowell, making it pretty clear David Archuleta should be the next American Idol.Make no mistake about it, both Davids were good. David Cook performed admirably but Simon put it best....Archuleta came out for the kill.Archuleta entered the competition as the winner of the Junior Singers competition on Star Search. Archuleta started singing when he was six because he was inspired by Les Misérables 10th-anniversary concert: Live at the Royal Albert Hall video (starring Colm Wilkinson, Lea Salonga and others) he was watching, "That musical is what started all of this." He started performing as an entertainer at ten years old when he participated in the Utah Talent Competition singing "I Will Always Love You" by Dolly Parton; he received a standing ovation, and won the kid division.
Archuleta has maintained an impressive fan base throughout the season. It can be argued that he has the better voice. Cook, however, is a good singer but he's also a rocker who has received praise for his originality. Along with Chris Daughtry, David Cook is very probably among the show's most original contestants thus far.Idol betting was brisk throughout the week heading into Tuesday night's show. At least a million dollars was anticipated to have been bet on the show since the start of the season.

Cowell pointed out it wasn’t the kind of showstopper that would win the contest. “You should have sung ‘Hello’ or ‘Billie Jean’,” Cowell said, referring to songs that had won Cook praise earlier in the season.

“Tonight I think we’ve witnessed one of the great finals,” said Cowell. “Here’s the difference in my opinion: you came out here tonight to win and what we have witnessed is a knockout.”
It’s finally here, the ‘American Idol’ season finale is on next week and it’s between the two Davids - David Cook and David Archuleta. It’s anyones game at this point, but Cook has done some unforgettable performances.My favorite performance up to this point has been Cook’s rendition of Mariah Carey’s “Always Be My Baby.” I think the whole shock factor of him picking that song made it stand out. Mariah was even caught off guard by his choice.
“I was surprised that David chose ‘Always Be My Baby’ because I didn’t know what he was going to do with it. I thought he did something really different and it made me proud as a song writer like this song can stand the test of time.”For me, that was the defining performance and the point where David Cook tilt the scales in his favor of actually winning the whole thing. Not to mention the judges have been all over him since then.
