Meet U.S. tennis player Ashley Harkleroad.Meet U.S. tennis player Ashley Harkleroad.Ashley was born on May 2, 1985 in Rossville, Georgia. She is 23 years old. She started playing tennis at the age of 4, when her father started taking her to the tennis courts. Her father Danny is a former college football player for the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, and mother Tammy is a school teacher who played tennis during her college days at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tennessee.
She turned pro in June 2000. Her breakout year was in 2003, when she jumped from being ranked No. 101 to No. 56. She had a Top 10 win over Daniela Hantuchova at the French Open. In June 2003, she jumped to the No. 39 spot and went to the final in doubles at the Japan Open in Tokyo.In 2004, she made it to the Tour final at Auckland, but lost to Eleni Daniilidou. She spent most of 2005 sidelined with injuries and dealing with illness in her family.
She came back in 2006 to play at Auckland, but lost in the opening round. She played at the Australian Open, but lost in the second round to Maria Sharapova. She ended the year being ranked No. 86 in singles and No. 55 in doubles.In 2007, Ashley saw another Top 100 finish, reaching the third round of the Australian Open, made it to the second round five different times, including the French Open, and lost in the first round of Wimbledon and the US Open. She finished the year being ranked No. 76 in Singles and No. 95 in Doubles.Ashley recently lost to Tatiana Perebiynis of the Ukraine at the Strasbourg International, but watch for her at the upcoming Beijing Olympics, as she is rumored to be on the U.S. Team!
