Steven Curtis Chapman Daughter Killed In Car Crash
The five-year-old daughter of American Christian music star Steven Curtis Chapman has been struck and killed by a sport-utility vehicle driven by her brother.Authorities in Tennessee say the girl, Maria, was hit in a driveway at the family home today south of Nashville and died later in hospital.The Toyota Land Cruiser was driven by the girl's teenage brother, said Tennessee Highway Patrol spokeswoman Laura McPherson.McPherson says several members of the Chapman family witnessed the accident.
The brother apparently did not see the little girl, she said.Chapman won his 50th Dove music award, the most of any artist in gospel music history, in 2006 for special event album of the year for the Chronicles of Narnia project.He toured Australia in 2006.McPherson said no charges were expected to be laid,"It looks like a tragic accident,'' she said.Chapman and his wife have promoted international adoption and have three daughters from China, including Maria. They have three biological children.The 45-year-old singer also has released a book about being a father entitled Cinderella: The Love of Daddy and his Princess.He has won five Grammy awards and 51 Dove awards from the Gospel Music Association.
