Michelle Obama Named Best Dressed

Michelle Obama
Move over, movie stars and fashionistas! Michelle Obama has won the top honor in the 2008 Vanity Fair International Best Dressed List. That’s right. Vanity Fair named Michelle Obama as #1 in their 2008 Best Dressed list. The magazine praised her “simple, chic style.”

Do you remember when Michelle Obama appeared on “The View” earlier this summer? You can see a video clip of that appearance below. On “The View” she wore a black and white sleeveless dress that she had bought at White House Black Market for under $150. She looked cool, stylish and comfortable - not too dressy and not too casual. As soon as she appeared on the set, women across the country were looking for the dress, and it sold out nationwide in record time. White House Black market scrambled to get more dresses made and into the stores before interest waned. Compare that to the hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars that other celebrities spend on dresses for such occasions. Michelle Obama made her style seem achieveable by any woman. To emphasize her non-stuffy style, Michelle Obama also mentioned that she shops at Target sometimes, too.

The point is that Michelle Obama dresses to look sophisticated and fashionable but still down-to-earth and accessible. She’s “one of us.”This is the second year in a row that Michelle Obama has made Vanity Fair’s International Best Dressed List which is quite an accomplishment for a non-Hollywood celebrity. Perhaps since it is an election year, it is only natural that a presidential candidate’s wife is more in the spotlight. However, we have elections every four years, and this is the first time a presidential candidate’s wife has been on the coveted list. What do you think? Do you agree that Michelle Obama is the epitomy of beauty and style. Notice I didn’t mention politics - just beauty and style.
