Madonna kicks off Sticky and Sweet Tour
Madonna kicked off her “Sticky and Sweet” tour in Cardiff, Wales in the UK with a mixture of glitz, multiple costume changes and with some political video commentary thrown in for good measure.Madonna knows how to put on a good show, and it takes a lot of “stuff” to do it. During the opening of her “Sticky and Sweet” tour in the UK Saturday evening, she went through three racks of clothing and $1.85 million worth of Swarovski crystals. The production involved over 600 hours of rehearsal time along with a 250-person entourage (including a chiropractor, personal trainer and masseuse) - enough to fill a passenger jet. Madonna employed 36 designers to create the 3,500 separate items of clothing that she used in the show.
UK fans started lining up outside Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on Friday for Saturday night’s 4-act production. To add a little political commentary, there was a video interlude which had images of destruction, global warming, Hitler, Mugabe . . . and John McCain. Then later, there were images of John Lennon, Al Gore, Mahatma Gandhi, and. . . you guessed it, Barack Obama. No surprise there.Madonna, the world’s top-selling female recording artist, celebrated her 50th birthday just last week. She will take her place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March. The “Sticky and Sweet” tour will continue to London on September 11th, Paris on September 20. Then it heads to North America in October, and it will wrap up on December 18th in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
