Angels And Airwaves and Kate Voegele On One Tree Hill “USOTH” Concert
One Tree Hill and The USO joined forces to offer Marines and One Tree Hill fans a unique “USOTH” concert experience. The CW network’s hit drama filmed a live concert featuring Angels & Airwaves and Kate Voegele, with military personnel in attendance at the Marine Corps Air Station New River in Jacksonville, North Carolina, in September.
In a case of life imitating art, the One Tree Hill/USO concert has been integrated into a storyline for the Nov. 10th episode. Called “Even Fairy Tale characters Would Be Jealous,” the show has Payton (Hilarie Burton), owner of her own record label, producing a USO concert at a Marine base where her brother is stationed.
One Tree Hill cast members Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray, along with Hilarie Burton were in attendance, and enjoyed the concert with all the military personnel. Castmate Bethany Joy Galeotti, along with Enation, also performed.A highlight of the event was the alternative rock group Angels & Airwaves. One Tree Hill recurring guest star Kate Voegele, currently on a nationwide University of Phoenix Tour, was also a featured performer of “USOTH.”
“Our best days at One Tree Hill are days when we can give back, so we’re thrilled to be able to bring a night of great music and entertainment to the Marine Corps Air Station New River, and to all members of the Department of Defense who selflessly protect and defend the country we love,” said executive producer and OTH creator Mark Schwahn.
“We’re appreciative not only to the artists who are donating their time and talents, but also to the USO and military personnel who have worked with us to make this event a reality,” Schwahn added.
Before the big concert, the Commanding Officer of Marine Corps Air Station New River, Col. Darrel Thacker, Jr., said, “We are looking forward to having this unique event offer an opportunity for the Marines and families to have some fun while also building morale as they enjoy the concert and experience the filming of a television show.”
Always fabulous at building morale is Sophia Bush who shared her admiration of the women who serve in uniform. Sophia reported that it’s important that girls can look to strong, competitive women to find great role models.
“I really think it’s important for young women to have role models coming from every field and all backgrounds. I think teenagers face so many issues today that it’s a struggle to build confidence. There’s so much negativity around and lives can get very competitive.”
Sophia continued with good advice for self esteem. “Kids, and everyone for that matter, should love themselves for who they are. No matter what they look like. No matter the color of their hair. Whatever you have, you own it. You should embrace it. Anyone can feel fabulous. And anyone can become whatever you want.”
