Weeds, Season 4, Episode 7 Preview

Burning down Agrestic was a smart creative decision. The interaction taking place between Nancy and the Mexican drug smugglers has opened up some new storylines that are tangential to the main narrative, but mesh nicely with Nancy's current milieu. Andy and Doug want to smuggle illegal immigrants across the border, and it makes for a nice little salsa as North meets South in different contexts.

While Nancy's romance with Esteban is straight out of Sex and the City, it is leavened somewhat by the frat boy atmosphere back at the beach front property in Ren Mar. Just a brief note to the producers and writers: Shane whacking off to naked pictures of his Mom is more Eraserhead than Animal House. It's creepy, and definitely not funny.While this episode had that nice, lighter palette that the writers have been using all season, I found the closing montage a little jarring. That sort of thing screams drama, and on that front, I don't think Weeds will ever be able to top Breaking Bad.
