Justice David Souter Announces Retirement

Justice David Souter has decided to retire from the Supreme Court when the current term ends, according to several reports.NPR, which was first to break the news, reported:Souter is expected to remain on the bench until a successor has been chosen and confirmed, which may or may not be accomplished before the court reconvenes in October.

Reached at home, Supreme Court spokesperson Kathy Arberg repeatedly declined comment to Huffington Post on the report of Souter's resignation. Asked specifically if the report of Souter's planned resignation was inaccurate, Arberg repeated, "All I can tell you is no comment."NPR's Nina Totenberg adds that Souter 69, has informed the White House of his decision and reports that President Obama intends to appoint a woman:At 69, Souter is nowhere near the oldest member of the court, but he has made clear to friends for some time now that he wanted to leave Washington, a city he has never liked, and return to his native New Hampshire.

Britney Spears Requested a Strippers' Pole for Her London Hotel

The Britney Spears circus is well and truly underway in London.The Dorchester Hotel is already making plans for her arrival at the start of June.The singer has asked for a stripper’s pole to be installed in her favourite suite in the top hotel so she can work out between shows during the appropriately named Circus tour.

Hardly the most orthodox request they’re likely to have received at the five-star hotel.Asource said: 'Britney loves pole dancing, it is her new favourite work out.'She gets the toning that she needs without having to hit the gym, and she wants to be able to do it in the privacy of her own hotel room.'Keeping fit on the tour is very important as her show is full of rigorous dance routines, so Britney likes to do her pole dancing work out every morning when she gets up.'

Give me my jacket!” According to the reports, Jon then told his gal pal to “get in the car!” and they sped away without turning on the vehicle’s headlights. Jon quickly jumped into defense mode calling the mag to tell them that he only went to the bar to speak to the owner.

“I went to Legends to speak to the owner. A friend of mine wanted to check out my car, so I let her drive it to her car,” he added. “Yes, I have female friends - but that is all she is. Elizabeth Edwards, the wife of disgraced former presidential candidate John Edwards, is finally speaking out about her husband’s very public affair with former campaign videographer Rielle Hunter.In her new memoir, Resilience, Elizabeth Edwards reveals she vomited in a bathroom after learning of the affair between her husband, former U.S. Senator and presidential hopeful John Edwards, and weird videographer Rielle Hunter.

When she heard, "I cried and screamed, I went to the bathroom and threw up," wrote Elizabeth Edwards, 59, who is battling terminal breast cancer.She says that John Edwards admitted to having an affair with Rielle Hunter just days after declaring his run for president in late 2006 - or nearly a year before the National Enquirer broke the story in December 2007.

Elizabeth does note that when John initially admitted the affair, he "left most of the truth out." Like the part about possibly fathering her kid, maybe?To protect her and their three children from scrutiny, Elizabeth says she urged John to quit the race, eventually won by Barack Obama. He did not.In August 2008, the Enquirer again reported he was the father of Rielle Hunter's daughter, but this time busted him visiting her secretly at an L.A. hotel.John was pretty much forced to admit that he hit that after that incident, though he still denies paternity. Elizabeth does not address this in the book.

Natalie Cole's the first of tonight's three guest performers, singing Something's Gotta Give. It's a fitting title for a results show, and she looks and sounds great -- she's just the kind of performer to show these five the standards that have been set for them. Even when Natalie's in a part of the song that isn't a natural fit for her voice, she makes it sound like it's exactly what she intended to do.One more Idol will bid us farewell tonight, but only after we see performances from Season 5 winner Taylor Hicks, Natalie Cole and Rat-Pack mentor Jamie Foxx.

Ryan asks Matt and Kris to stand on one side of the stage, and Allison and Danny to stand on the other. Ryan then asks Adam which group he thinks he belongs in, and the poor guy winces. Wouldn't you? I hate when they pull this crap; it's so awkward. Adam says that based on last night, he'll stand with Allison and Danny. But no sooner does he make the trip, Seacrest pulls him over to Matt and Kris and tells him he's in the bottom three. I'm honestly shocked! I'm also shocked that Allison and Danny are safe automatically, and judging by her jaw dragging on the floor, so is Allison. But, can we talk about Adam Lambert? I thought that dude was untouchable, and I'm glad to see that he's got competition. Woo to the hoo! Can I also say a giant "ha!" to Simon? America didn't listen to him about Allison.


Natalie sings "Something's Gotta Give" and looks fantastic! Yes, she's very thin, but I gather her weight's due to her struggle with Hepatitis C. Clearly, it's not stopping her from performing (or touring this summer), so bravo! Her performance is jazzy, although the end is a little sharp. But the audience and the judges all give her a standing ovation... because she's Natalie Cole.Taylor Hicks (he's skinny, too!) is back in all his Soul Patrol glory to perform his single "Seven Mile Breakdown." It sounds exactly like every other Taylor Hicks song, which is not a bad thing. It's just his funky, bluesy, down-home kind of style. Has anyone been following Taylor's career? Seen his shows? While I'll give him props for his being a decent mentor, I cannot stand his hit, "Blame It." I might have accidentally fast-forwarded through it. Hee hee. After the song, Jamie tells Ryan that these are some of the most talented artists he's seen in the last ten years and hopes the audience continues to support them after they're off the show. Aw. Then he ruins it by plugging his movie.

Carl Edwards Nascar Crash (Photos and Video)

NASCAR driver Carl Edwards is in good shape after a fiery crash at NASCAR’s Talladega Speedway Sunday, but several fans are less lucky. The crash sent wreckage flying into the stand, injuring seven spectators and sending two to the hospital.Carl Edwards Car was airborne and crashed into the protective fence that separates the audience from the track injuring eight fans immediately. Seven fans were treated at Talladega Superspeedway for the minor injuries on the spot.

It is said that the injuries were caused by the flying debris when Carl Edwards Car #99 went airborne on the final lap and crashed into fence at Aaron’s 499 at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday.As Dr. Bobby Lewis puts it, “”minor … not dangerous or life-threatening — mostly bumps, bruises, contusions and possible fractures. but two women were airlifted to Birmingham hospitals.”

Lewis said one, who was taken to UAB Hospital, likely had a broken jaw and also had a cut on her mouth. The other was transported to Brookwood Hospital because of an unspecified medical condition but was not hurt.The crowds started cheering when Carl Edwards got out of car almost uninjured even after this horrible crash and that was the best part of the whole race.

Jayson Williams In Hospital, Acting "Suicidal"

Jayson Williams was taken to a Manhattan hospital for a psychological evaluation early today after he barricaded himself inside a hotel room and was acting “suicidal” and “violent,” authorities told The Post. Williams, 41, was removed from his room at a Manhattan hotel at 4 a.m., police sources said. Once inside the hotel, the officers confronted what sources described to The Post as ‘a suicidal man’ who was acting ‘violent.’

Police were called to a Manhattan hotel at 4:00 a.m. after Williams trashed his room and then barricaded himself inside. Officers then used "an electrical device" to subdue the perp (i.e., they tazed him, bro) and hauled him off St. Vincent's Hospital for a psychological evaluation.

Oh and here's a fun fact that you may have forgotten about—Williams never actually served time for accidentally shooting his limo driver and then trying to cover up it. Neat, huh? (He still faces a re-trial on manslaughter and the obstruction charges, but the shooting took place over seven years ago. So no rush!) You would think that not going to prison even though you killed a guy would leave a man pretty chipper, but I guess the heart works in mysterious ways.

We saw the historic first ever use of the judges save, that kept Matt Giraud from being sent home.

Last week two Idols, Lil Rounds and Anoop Desai were sent home. Here is an interview of their reflections upon taking part in American Idol season 8 and reaching the Top 7.Your American Idol Top 5 includes Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, Danny Gokey, Kris Allen, Matt Giraud.Last week we had American Idol Disco Week with a standout performance from Idol frontrunner, Adam Lambert, If I Can’t Have You.Previously we had American Idol Top 7 theme ‘Idols at the Movies’ a night of ’songs from film,’ with famed Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino as mentor. That gave us another classic from Adam Lambert Born to Be Wild.

With the prior week’s theme, ‘American Idol’ Year They Were Born Wish List and our contestants’ birth dates ranging from 1980 to 1992, we had a night of 1980s classics, including Adam Lambert, Mad World, another signature performance from the Idol favorite.Previously, we had Top Downloads and outstanding performances from Kris Allen (Ain’t No Sunshine), Danny Gokey (What Hurts The Most), and Adam Lambert (Wild Cherry, ‘Play that Funky Music’).

Earlier in the season we witnessed Motown Week with legendary Smokey Robinson and Motown founder and legend Barry Gordy himself as mentors of the American Idol top 10 that week. Prior to that we had Grand Ole Opry Week with mentor Randy Travis on hand to school our contestants. First there was the Adam Lambert Ring of Fire and next the Adam Lambert Tracks of My Tears performance that got everyone talking.

I had enjoyed Scott MacIntyre’s performance, not only because he is from Arizona (my home state), but he definitely BRINGS IT when he’s tickling those ivories. But last week, we saw the contestant sent home. Here is a departing interview he gave. I suspect we have neither seen or heard the last of Scott!

As the season progresses, more and more contestants are eliminated. We have seen Megan Joy, Michael Sarver, Alexis Grace, Jasmine Murray and Jorge Nunez sent home in addition to Lil Rounds and Anoop Desai,Who will continue? Who will be sent home? And who will surprise and amaze us next?! We are getting closer and closer to that one and only American Idol season 8 winner!

Daisy de la Hoya Hosts New Show Daisy of Love

Daisy De La Hoya is spreading love like a dandelion. Her seed lands tonight on VH1 in the latest of the network’s never-ending line of love-seeking, trashy unscripted shows, “Daisy of Love” at 9 p.m.De La Hoya, the inked-up, buxom blond vixen dumped in the finale of “Rock of Love 2 with Bret Michaels,” now gets her own shot at love, choosing between 18 seemingly just-out-of-the-clinic dudes, bros and rockers who range from suburban meatheads to blond glam-metal Swedish triplets.

Last we saw De La Hoya, a woman whose appearance ranges from a sultry gothic sex bomb to a strung-out version of Janice from “The Muppet Show,” she was dissed by Michaels in front of 5 million viewers. “Rock of Love 2” ended up being the second-highest-rated season of any series for VH1.“It was just the greatest time,” De La Hoya said by phone from New York, her normally upbeat voice hoarse from a sore throat.

Daisy, the niece of boxing champ Oscar De La Hoya, has kept busy since “Rock of Love 2,” getting caught up in Hollywood’s usual whirlwind troika of celebrity, rock ’n’ roll and fashion. She’s designed T-shirts for label Beautiful Disaster, pushed her own rock band and has been linked in the romance rumor mill with Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee and Jane’s Addiction’s Dave Navarro.

“You Might Be Rich” is the Dateline NBC show that finds unclaimed money and returns it to the rightful owners.A local man is featured on national television after the network tracks him down to tell him he's inherited a lot of money!For 55-year-old Madison resident Nick, who lives alone and suffers from Parkinson's disease, NBC's phone call was too good to be true!"We call our series 'You Might Be Rich,' and what we do is we find people who don't know they have money coming to them and return it," explains Dateline NBC producer Rob Buchanan, "It's a big surprise!"

“You Might Be Rich” is a Dateline NBC segment where that first aired last August, helping return almost $2 million lost dollars to average Americans. In the new rendition of the segment NBC News reporter Tiki Barber and his team, which includes NBC News’ Peter Alexander, and MSNBC’s Tamron Hall, find unclaimed property that is waiting in the state treasuries to be returned to the rightful owners.

Almost $5 million was returned to over a dozen individuals by Barber and his team. In one particular case a former Pennsylvanian, who moved to Germany, was tracked down by the NBC news team, and given over a half a million dollars from an inheritance he was unaware he ever had. The story gets even better; when Dateline finally tracked him down they discovered he was homeless.

Another man had a million dollars that was waiting to be collected in the Illinois State Treasury, according to dateline.msnbc.com. You Might Be Rich, will air in two, hour specials Sunday, April 26 at 7:00 p.m. ET, and Sunday, May 3 at 7:00 p.m. ET.The May 3 show will take place live from outside Rockefeller Center, surprising one family that is completely unaware that they are entitled to unclaimed money.

Friends were beginning to fear Denise Van Outen’s long-cherished wish to settle down and start a family might never come true.But yesterday she stunned them all by marrying musical star Lee Mead on a beach in the Seychelles.The couple met when Denise, 35, was a judge on BBC1’s Any Dream Will Do talent show, which 27-year-old Lee won, landing the lead role in the musical Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Last night a friend said: ‘Denise went away last weekend telling people she was simply going on holiday.'It was literally just her parents, his parents and a couple of her best pals.’Wearing an off-the-shoulder white dress, her hair tied back with a Seventies-style band, Denise could scarcely contain her joy during the ceremony – held in full view of other guests at the Labriz Silhouette luxury resort.Afterwards the happy couple were seen kissing on a boat.

The pair stayed for ten nights in the two-storey Presidential villa at a cost of £12,000. It is the most expensive room in the hotel and has its own pool.The simple ceremony marked the end of her much-troubled search for the right man. Despite once being labelled a ‘ladette’, Denise has described herself as ‘a traditional girl at heart’.She said: ‘I come from a big family, my parents are still together and I’m so girly, I dream of the white wedding and the big dress.’
