In talking about her return to the show to perform, Jennifer Hudson, expressed her gratitude, excitement and enthusiasm over the success of her debut album, which was released last fall and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and won the 2009 Grammy for Best R&B Album. She also mentioned her engagement, though not letting us know a wedding date. It is also one of her first performances since the Jennifer Hudson family tragedy of last October which saw the shooting deaths of her mother, brother and nephew.

Neil Lane Engagement Ring Chosen For 'The Bachelor' Finale

The Bachelor's Jason Mesnick has just one rose left and two potential wives to choose between, yet while one major decision remains to be made, another has already been set in stone.On the season finale of the ABC reality show, taking place on Monday, March 2, Mesnick will propose with a hand-crafted Neil Lane marquise-cut diamond and platinum ring encrusted with 170 smaller diamonds. The diamonds add up to a total carat weight of 3.18, with the D-color, VS1-clarity center stone weighing in at 1.94 carats.

Mesnick chose the ring from three Neil Lane designs, each featuring a unique cut of diamonds, including oval and pear shapes.As is the show's tradition, Mesnick began courting 25 women on the season premiere episode, back in January. He has since narrowed the field down to two ladies: Molly, a 24-year-old department store buyer from Grand Rapids, Mich., and Melissa, a 25-year-old sales representative from Dallas.One of the lucky ladies will join the long list of brides who have worn Neil Lane engagement rings, including celebrities such as Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Hudson, Kate Hudson, Brooke Shields and Reese Witherspoon.

Jennifer Hudson, Ex American Idol Contestant Sings Superbowl National Anthem

One was a 12-minute party, the other a 2-minute proclamation. Bruce Springsteen and Jennifer Hudson used the Super Bowl stage for two very different performances Sunday night: he proved he's still The Boss with an electric halftime show, while Hudson showed she's ready to return to the spotlight after the slayings of three family members.

Springsteen and his E Street Band had turned down numerous invitations to play the halftime show, declining the high-profile time slot because it was a bit beneath them.Then the show slowly started to draw legitimate acts — U2, The Rolling Stones, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, to name a few — and Springsteen changed his view of performing in the middle of a football game.

He promised a 12-minute party, and more than delivered by charming the estimated 100 million television viewers with his opening line: "I want you to put the chicken fingers down and turn your television all the way up."Springsteen then threw himself into his four-song set, a highly anticipated series of songs that had Las Vegas oddsmakers taking bets on which tunes he'd select. He opened with "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out," and worked in one of his trademark across-the-stage knee slides.

The move wasn't without risk: He slid into one of the on-stage cameras, and seemed to be winded when he transitioned into "Born to Run."Next up was his newest piece, "Working on a Dream," which was backed by a choir. He then closed out with a playful version of "Glory Days" that fittingly altered the lyrics to fit the occasion: Springsteen's old high school buddy was "a big football player" instead of "baseball," and threw a "Hail Mary" instead of a "speed ball."

He and guitarist Steven Van Zandt then toyed with the crowd as the show came to an end, looking at their watches as the clock wound down. Worried they were about to hit "penalty time," (a referee even raced out and threw a yellow flag), they closed it out right on time."I'm going to Disneyland!" the 59-year-old rocker shouted at the end.

It was a completely different energy than the one offered two hours earlier by Hudson, who made her first public appearance since the October slayings in Chicago of her mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew. Her estranged brother-in-law has been charged in the killings.Wearing a flowing white top with black leggings and a military-style dark jacket, the 27-year-old singer/actress looked apprehensive and took a deep breath before launching into the anthem.

Hudson, who clocked in at 2 minutes, 13 seconds, looked relieved when she was through.When she returned to her dressing room, she anxiously asked pre-game show producer Rickey Minor "How did I do?""I told her 'Touchdown!'" Minor told The Associated Press after the performance."This was such an important performance, because it's the first time everyone has seen Jennifer. But she's in such a great place, with such great spirits and time can heal her wounds. She's on fire right now and totally grounded."

Minor, the music director for American Idol, has produced numerous Super Bowl pre-game performances, including Whitney Houston's 1991 anthem in Tampa that's considered the benchmark for singers. Body of Jennifer Hudson's Nephew Julian King Found In a Car!

The body of a young black boy recovered from a sport utility vehicle this morning is believed to be Jennifer Hudson's missing 7-year-old nephew Julian King, an FBI official told ABC News.Official confirmation of the body's identity is still pending.The Oscar winner is offering a reward for the return of her nephew.The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office and Chicago Police Department were investigating a white SUV on the city's west side today. Television footage showed police vehicles escorting a flatbed tow truck as it removed the SUV from the scene.

More PhotosPolice found the body in a white SUV on Chicago's west side; authorities had been searching for him since Friday. Julian hasn't been seen since Hudson's mother and brother were found shot to death in their home Friday afternoon. Police issued an Amber Alert Friday for Julian and were looking for a 1994 white Chevrolet Suburban.An Illinois State Police spokesman confirmed to ABC News that the Amber Alert had been canceled, but declined to comment further on the investigation.

William Balfour Is The Suspect In Jennifer Hudson’s Family Killing

Authorities in Chicago have confirmed that William Balfour, 27, IS in police custody now, and is suspected in the double-homicide of singer-actress Jennifer Hudson’s mother and brother today. Balfour is also suspected of abducting Hudson’s nephew, Julian King, age 7. An Amber Alert has been issued for the child, who is 5′ tall, 130 pounds, last seen wearing a tan polo shirt and khaki pants. Balfour is refusing to tell authorities where the boy is.

Police have described the murders as resulting from “domestic abuse.” AroundHarlem.com quotes a source in Chicago saying that the murders were committed as an act of revenge. “The Hudson family kicked someone out of a house. He said he’d be back to kill them.” Suspect William Balfour’s address that is registered with authorities, is the address of Jennifer’s mother’s home.

According to the Illinois Department of Corrections, Balfour is on parole and has spent nearly seven years in prison for attempted murder, vehicular hijacking and possessing a stolen vehicle. He was sentenced to seven years in prison in 1999. He’s 5-foot-5 and weighs 147 pounds. Authorities say he wears his hair in braids now.

Jennifer Hudson's Mother and Brother Found Dead!

The mother and brother of Jennifer Hudson were found shot dead Friday at a South Side home, and police were seeking a missing child who is the nephew of the singer and Oscar-winning actress. "We can confirm that there is an ongoing investigation concerning the deaths of Jennifer Hudson's mother, Darnell Donerson, and her brother, Jason Hudson," Hudson's personal publicist, Lisa Kasteler, said in a statement. "No further comment will be made and the family has asked that their privacy be respected at this difficult time."

Police spokeswoman Monique Bond said the deaths appeared to be the result of domestic abuse.Deputy Chief Joseph Patterson said a family member entered the home around 3 p.m. Friday, found a woman shot on the living room floor and left to notify authorities. Responding officers found a man shot in the bedroom, Patterson said. There was no sign of forced entry.

Police tape blocked access to the large, white house, where a crowd gathered outside.Authorities issued an Amber Alert for 7-year-old Julian King, and were seeking a 1994 white Chevrolet Suburban. The child was the grandson of the female victim, Patterson said.The alert said the child was possibly abducted, and accompanied by a man — considered armed and dangerous — who was a suspect in the double homicide investigation. Records with the Illinois Department of Corrections show the man, who has not been charged with a crime, is on parole and spent nearly seven years in prison for attempted murder, vehicular hijacking and possessing a stolen vehicle.

The tragedy comes as Hudson, who grew up in Chicago, continues to reach new heights in her career. Her song "Spotlight" is No. 1 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop charts and her recently released, self-tiled album debut and has been a top seller. She was featured in this year's blockbuster "Sex and the City" and is also starring in hit movie "The Secret Life of Bees."

She won an Academy Award for best supporting actress in 2007 for her role in "Dreamgirls." In an interview last year with Vogue, Hudson credited her mother with encouraging her to audition for "American Idol," which launched her career.
