"True Jackson, VP," Premieres Tonight Starring Keke Palmer

Keke Palmer in
If Nickelodeon guesses right, 'True Jackson' star "True Jackson, VP," Premieres will follow in the popular footsteps of Miley Cyrus, Miranda Cosgrove, and other tween stars.True Jackson has quite a bit in common with her fellow sitcom characters on Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel. She’s a good girl — not a rebel — with adult-sized ambitions and a streak of adorable klutziness. She has a multiracial mix of goofy best friends. And she’s likely to appear on a product near you.

That about sums up the formula of tween TV, and of Nickelodeon's newest entry into the sitcom market. "True Jackson, V.P.," which premieres tonight at 9:30, features "Akeelah and the Bee" star Keke Palmer as a 15-year-old fashion designer, named vice president of a major fashion house. And Nickelodeon hopes it will make Palmer the latest in a line of mostly wholesome, multiplatform teenage stars.

The kids who might love True are the 8-to-12-year-old girls who made "Hannah Montana" a nationwide phenomenon, and whose spending powers have made them a coveted demographic. In recent years, the Disney Channel has unleashed a string of sitcoms designed for them, from the onetime hit "That's So Raven" to the current show "Wizards of Waverly Place." Nickelodeon has offered such competitors as "Zoey 101" - which was canceled after star Jamie-Lynn Spears got pregnant at 17 - and the current hit "iCarly."

Each has a multicamera format, a loud laugh track, a penchant for slapstick, and a lead character who projects a certain sort of purity. (The zapping of Spears was little surprise, and some believe Miley Cyrus's provocative Vanity Fair portraits herald her impending exit from the tween-idol scene.) Shows aimed at teenagers, such as the CW's "Gossip Girl" and "90210," are loaded with provocative behavior. But on tween TV, high school is a safe and pure place, and stars are aware of their role-model status. Both "Waverly Place" star Selena Gomez and up-and-comer Demi Lovato - the star of last summer's Disney Channel movie "Camp Rock," who is now filming a Disney sitcom of her own - wear "promise rings" declaring that they'll wait until marriage for sex.Palmer, 15, who is involved with the teen mentoring program "It's Cool to Be Smart," seems equally willing to embrace the good-girl image.

Miranda Cosgrove ‘Stay My Baby’ Video

Miranda Cosgrove
Miranda Cosgrove, star of “iCarly” has done her very first video and it’s for the song “Stay My Baby.” It’s off the album iCarly – Music from and Inspired by the Hit TV Show .The song is Miranda’s first solo single. Looks like things are moving fast for the 15-year-old. She signed a record deal with Columbia in May, the “iCarly” soundtrack released in June and now she has her first video. I’m not a huge fan of the song, but I hope Cosgrove does her thing. I actually find “iCarly” entertaining to watch.

“Stay My Baby” was directed by Jesse Dylan, who happens to be the son of Bob Dylan. He also had a little help from his daughter Mae Mae. Miranda was in good company as Jesse has worked with Nelly Furtado, Lenny Kravitz and will.i.am in the past. “Stay My Baby” debuts Monday at 6 p.m. (ET), but you can check out an exclusive at People and see a behind the scenes look of the video shoot below.

Miranda Cosgrove
Meet Miranda Cosgrove, the teen actress making a name for herself on Nickelodeon and now breaking into the music industry. The “iCarly” soundtrack is releasing June 10, and producers are hoping to use the album to also launch Miranda Cosgrove’s music career. In May, Miranda signed a solo recording deal with Columbia Records.

Miranda Cosgrove was born on May 14, 1993 in Los Angeles, California, so her age is 15. At age 3, she was singing and dancing in a restaurant called Taste of LA when she was spotted by a talent agent who started casting her in commercials, including for McDonald’s and Burger King, and the rest is history. The young talent is now all over Nickelodeon, starring in both “Drake and Josh” and “iCarly”. Miranda really enjoyed playing the prankster on “Drake and Josh”.

Miranda’s biggest role to date is the movie “School of Rock” with Jack Black. She plays Summer Hathaway, the teacher’s pet who turns out to be one heck of a talent manager. When she’s not acting, Miranda enjoys a lot of different activities, including fencing, horseback riding, and playing the guitar. And the girl loves movies, calling herself a “movie junkie”. If she doesn’t stick with acting, she says she’d like to be a marine biologist. And, her favorite color is purple.
