The 2008 season at the Flat Rock Playhouse will include everything the Playhouse audience has come to enjoy: Music, mystery, comedy, drama and more. Maintaining a long tradition of exemplary theatre, this 56th season features an amazing lineup of extraordinary selections. Tickets to all shows go on sale beginning March 26.Opening the Flat Rock Playhouse 2008 Professional Season is Dames At Sea with book and lyrics by George Haimsohn and Robin Miller and music by Jim Wise.
In Dames At Sea, New York salutes Hollywood in this affectionate spoof of the 42nd Street-style musical of the '30s. Charmingly reminiscent, Dames At Sea is a show within a show with a hardboiled leading lady, tap dancing babes, handsome sailors and a stage on the deck of a battleship. Dames At Sea is on stage April 30 through May 18.
At the half-way point of the season is All Shook Up, inspired by the music of Elvis Presley with book by Joe DiPietro. Set in Smalltown, USA, circa 1955, "a rolling roustabout with a song in his soul and an eye for the ladies" rambles into town on his motorcycle and unhinges the locals repressed behavior, bringing romance, rebellion and rock-n-roll into their lives. Showcasing 25 Elvis tunes including Heartbreak Hotel, Burning Love, Jailhouse Rock, Don't Be Cruel and Hound Dog, All Shook Up mixes a little bit of Shakespeare with a whole lot of the King, guaranteeing that the entire family will be jumpin' out of their blue suede shoes. On stage July 23 through Aug. 17.
