Aubry first came into the industry in the late 90’s, at a time when fashion was first becoming obsessed with androgyny and/or overt boyishness in menswear. Aubry was considered the prototype of this. He was among the first wave of such boys to come into the industry. However, most of those boys phased out after a season or two, or a very few years at most. Aubry quickly became a popular model, and ironically as his looks matured he continued to grow more successful. He is now characterized by longer hair and designer stubble.

He has modeled for Tommy Hilfiger, Versace, Calvin Klein and Next; and achieved supermodel status after modeling for Hugo Boss. Gabriel has a pay rate of $30,000 a day.Halle and Gabriel form a couple for two years now. The first time they were publicly seen together was in February 2006 at the opening of a Versace boutique in New York City.
