Coldplay Copied Creaky Boards Song!

Chris Martin
Coldplay’s latest album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, released in U.S. stores Tuesday, June 17, but their single off of the album, also called “Viva La Vida”, dropped on May 25 and has been played on televisions in an iTunes commercial ever since. But where did the inspiration for such a cool new song come from? New York band Creaky Boards says it came from them.

Creaky Boards frontman Andrew Hoepfner says that Coldplay’s new hit sounds strikingly similar to their own song, ironically named “The Songs I Didn’t Write”. He also alleges that Chris Martin attended a New York music festival last year in which Creaky Boards performed their song. On YouTube, Hoepfner has posted a video claiming, “We were flattered when we thought we saw Chris Martin in the crowd. He seemed pretty into it … Maybe TOO into it?”

For their part, Coldplay has vehemently denied any allegations of plagiarism. Spokesman Murray Chalmers says,“We totally refute their claims, and there are two facts that make it easy to disprove them. First, on the night in October when the band say Chris Martin was watching them, he was actually working at the Air Studio in London, and we can prove that. Second, even if he had been at the gig, “Viva la Vida” was written and demoed seven months before the night in question, so it couldn’t possibly have been copied.”

It's too bad that so many musical acts fail to come up with something new or original. Maybe if they'd quit drinking and partying and do something to build up their brain cells, like drink Purple, they'd think more clearly and have a better creative outlet.
