Weeds Season 4 Preview

Weeds is one of those....unconventional shows. This is the series (along with the excellent Dexter) that signified that the pendulum had swung Showtime’s way when it came to original programming. For those of you that need a comparison to existing shows, Weeds falls somewhere around Sex and the City for shocking subject matter and somewhere around 30 Rock for quality laughs. Weeds will never be one of those shows for everyone, the subject matter and basic pro-pot premise guarantees that, but it is a quality show with great acting. Usually there are two or three blow-away, laugh out loud funny lines in each episode. This show has a heart, great characters, and spends some time delving into the state of America today…at least in terms of what role drugs play in American life.

Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker)-Turned to selling weed after her husband Judah suddenly dropped dread of a heart attack leaving her to provide for their two sons, Silas and Shane. Last season, Nancy turned to the 666 gang of Latinos for protection and poured gasoline all over her house to ensure that it was destroyed when a new wildfire broke out.

Andy Botwin-Nancy’s brother-in-law. Classic pot head. Bright, but not too bright, would do anything for a girl. Came to “help” Nancy with the boys after Judah died. Also prone to idiotic ideas.Celia Hodes (Elizabeth Perkins)-Nancy’s former friend and irritating PTA president and neighbor. Complete bitch, dedicated to making herself look good. Decided to get into the weed business herself last season after discovering that Nancy was a drug dealer.Doug (Kevin Nealon)-Nancy’s accountant and weed customer. Helped Nancy (and Celia)shelter her drug money. Would get high with the devil.
