He met Selena in 1988, and two years later, the Quintanilla family hired him to play in Selena's band and they quickly fell in love. In 2001, Chris Pérez Band made their final album called Una Noche Más.After the Chris Pérez Band disbanded, Pérez joined his brother-in-law's (A. B. Quintanilla) music group called Kumbia Kings. However, Quintanilla conflicted with fellow band member, Cruz Martínez, and subsequently left the Kumbia Kings followed by Pérez. Quintanilla started a new band called, Kumbia All Starz, with Pérez as its current guitarist.
