LeRoi Moore
Dave Matthews Band saxophonist LeRoi Moore died today from complications due to an ATV accident.LeRoi Moore was a talented saxophonist for the iconic jam band The Dave Matthews Band. Back on June 30th of this year the official DMB website posted this:LeRoi Moore was injured today in an ATV accident on his farm outside Charlottesville, Virginia. LeRoi was immediately transported to the University of Virginia Health System for treatment where he remains in serious condition.

Then, the saxophonist from Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, Jeff Coffin, stepped in for LeRoi on the DMB summer tour. LeRoi remained in the hospital, but was eventually well enough to go home. However on July 18th, he began suffering complications from his punctured lung and broken ribs.LeRoi Moore was born on September 7, 1961 in Durham N.C. He was a very talented musician and played 8 different instruments: bass, baritone, tenor, alto, and soprano saxophones, as well as the flute, bass clarinet and wooden penny whistle. According the Dave Matthews Band website, he was most influenced by Jazz, but didn’t consider himself a jazz musician. He is classically trained but loved that DMB allowed him to “improvise & to try new ideas.”LeRoi Moore did a few projects aside from DMB, appearing on Code Magenta’s self-titled album, and on Soko’s album In November Sunlight.
