Maria Sue Chapman Tragedy : Steven Curtis Chapman Speaks
Steven Curtis Chapman talked about the tragedy that hit his family after Maria Sue Chapman was accidentally hit by a vehicle. He talked about it all on “Good Morning America”. His was present with his other family members including wife Mary Beth Chapman, Emily Elizabeth Chapman, Caleb Stevenson Chapman and Will Franklin Chapman.
Chapman’s five-year-old daughter, Maria Sue Chapman, was killed in a tragic accident on May 21, 2008. The little girl was accidentally hit by her older brother driving a Toyota Land Cruiser pulling into the driveway of their home in Franklin, Tennessee. The entire family was preparing to celebrate their eldest son Caleb’s graduation from high school and their daughter’s engagement just hours before the accident. Maria Sue later died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Maria was the youngest in the family, and one of three daughters adopted from China by Steven and his wife, Mary Beth.
Chapman is also a vocal advocate for adoption. Apart from three biological kids, Steven and Mary had adopted three more from China. One of them was Maria. Both of them have written three children’s books with adoption themes: Shaoey And Dot: Bug Meets Bundle , Shaoey and Dot: The Christmas Miracle , and Shaoey and Dot: A Thunder and Lightning Bug Story . Chapman’s modern fairytale, Cinderella: The Love of a Daddy and His Princess chronicles and celebrates the blessings of childhood, family, love, and life.
