Monique Henderson Is Gold Medal Winning Athlete
Monique Henderson is a track and field athlete, competing internationally for the United States. She was a gold medalist in the 4x400m relay at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece as well as in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.At age 17, she set a US junior and high school record of 50.74s. In 2000, she became the first high school athlete to make the US Olympic team since 1976. She was a member of the 4x400m squad but did not run.
The Us women's 4x400 relay teams won gold, ending a disappointing run by U.S. sprinters in Beijing. Richards had to chase down Russian anchor runner Anastasia Kapachinskaya, passing her less than 10 meters from the tape. Mary Wineberg, Allyson Felix, Monique Henderson and Richards came home in 3:18.54. Henderson and Richards both ran for the gold medal-winning team in Athens in 2004. Russia took silver, Jamaica bronze.
