Nita Whitaker Is Don LaFontaine’s Wife

Meet Nita Whitaker, a former beauty queen, actress and singer.Our hearts go out to Nita Whitaker, as her husband, “the king of voiceovers” Don LaFontaine, died yesterday from complications of a collapsed lung. Don was 68 years old and voiced over 5,000 movie trailers and 350,000 commercials.Nita Whitaker was born in Louisiana. It is unclear how old she is. Musical talent runs in her family, as her father was part of the Gospel group Spiritual Jubilee.

Nita is a former beauty queen, having won the Miss Louisiana contest in 1984. Shortly after her pageant run, she set her sights on a musical career and appeared on television’s hit talent competition, Star Search, where she was the Female Grand Champion.After her Star Search win, she appeared in a number of musical plays and released her own album in 1994. She released One Voice in 2002, but the album did not do as well as she had hoped. She was a backup singer for Stevie Wonder, Yolanda Adams and Faith Hill. Nita’s third album, Life Stories, was released in 2007 and received warm reviews.It’s not clear when Nita and Don LaFontaine married. She has two daughters, Skye and Elyse.
