Michael Phelps Caught with Cannabis Pipe

Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps hit superstar status during the 2008 Summer Olympics in China when he won eight gold medals, five of which were for individual events. Now the champion swimmer is in the news again, but this time for a much less noble reason. Michael Phelps was supposedly photographed taking a bong hit.

Michael Phelps is 23 years old and in college at the University of Michigan. It’s the perfect time in your life to party uncontrollably, make ban decisions, and just have an all-around good time. He’s a college student, for Pete’s sake! But it sounds like he’s taken it too far. Not only has Phelps been caught smoking marijuana, there’s apparently a photo. (we are not convinced that this photo is actually a photo of Michael Phelps.)

This Michael Phelps bong incident could affect his swimming career. Although he’s never failed a drug test, there is a four-year band on participating in Olympic-sanctioned events if it’s shown that you’ve taken drugs. I don’t know if this alleged photo would do the trick, but if so, this could be the last we see of Phelps in a swimming pool.This isn’t Phelps’ first run-in with trouble. In 2004, before turning 21, he got a DUI. He calls it “a learning experience”. No doubt this latest mistake will be, too.
