Joaquin Phoenix Appeared on David Letterman Show

Actor Joaquin Phoenix stunned a US chat show host into awkward silence by giving abrupt two and three-word answers, chewing gum and sitting with his head bowed during a bizarre interview.The Oscar-nominated star was supposed to be plugging his new movie Two Lovers - also featuring Gwyneth Paltrow - when he appeared on David Letterman's show.But he left the American talkshow king speechless by showing no interest in the interview, having apparently retired from acting to pursue a rap music career.

However the interview did not start well when Letterman noted it had been three years since Phoenix had been on the show, and that the actor looked 'a lot different'.When Letterman asked if he was pleased with it, he said: 'I'm okay with it but now you're making me feel weird about it. Is there something wrong?.'Letterman initially tried to coax Phoenix out of his sullenness by praising his new film - to which Joaquin responded: 'Thanks.'But then when he got no response from Phoenix when he asked him to talk about his co-star, Paltrow, he turned on his guest.
