Prince Harry Fighting In Afghanistan!!
Prince Harry has been fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan with his frontline regiment for about 10 weeks, the Ministry of Defence was forced to confirm yesterday. The prince, who is third in line to the throne, served as a battlefield air controller, calling in bombing raids on suspected enemy positions. The disclosure of his role came after reports of his deployment leaked on the Drudge Report, a popular US internet gossip website, breaking a deal reached with media outlets to keep his activities secret.Richard Dannat, chief of the general staff, said he was "very disappointed that foreign websites have decided to run this story without consulting us".
Within days of reaching Afghanistan, the prince was sent to FOB Delhi, a remote frontline outpost built on the remains of a 19th century fort. Taliban fighters were less than a mile away.Prince Harry follows in the footsteps of his uncle Prince Andrew, who fought as a helicopter pilot in the Falklands war and was nicknamed the "little prince" by the Argentine military junta. Prince Harry's own brothers in arms joke that he is the "bullet magnet".Last year, Britain's army chief was forced to reverse a decision to send the prince to Iraq after judging that those around him would be subject to an unacceptable risk. The decision prompted Prince Harry to consider leaving the army. "It did feel very much like, well if I'm going to cause this much chaos to a lot of people, then maybe I should just, you know, bow out."
It's bizarre," Prince Harry told reporters in Helmand province. "I'm out here now, haven't really had a shower for four days, haven't washed my clothes for a week and everything seems completely normal."His Shakespearean antecedent has already fuelled the enthusiasm of some sections of the British press, with particular reference to the passage: "The game's afoot. Follow your spirit, and upon this charge: cry 'God for Harry, England, and Saint George!'"
