Duffy Is A Welsh Singer
Duffy (born Aimee Duffy), the Welsh singer whose debut album, Rockferry, has been at the top of the charts in Britain.Duffy, whose voice has a soulful Motown vibe and is compared often compared to Dusty Springfield, is enjoying success at the top of the British music charts with her debut album Rockferry. Her single, Mercy, was at Number 1 for five weeks.Duffy (Aimee Anne Duffy is her birth name) was born on June 23, 1984 in Nefyn, Gwynedd, Wales. She has a twin sister, Katy, and an older sister, Kelly. Welsh is her first language.
Her world was turned upside down when her parents divorced when she was 10 years old. It was during that time that Duffy was able to lay a foundation for her music.In 2003, when Duffy was 19, she auditioned for Wawffactor, the Welsh version of the hugely popular X Factor, but was beat out by Lisa Pedrig. She studied at Chester University and would sing hits from the Sixties and Seventies at local clubs during her down time. Upon the advice of a counselor at the University, she left school to pursue her dream in music.
She appeared on two tracks for the album See You in the Morning by Mint Royale. She was introduced to Jeanette Lee, who was part owner of Rough Trade Records. It was through Jeanette that she was introduced to ex-guitar player for Suede Bernard Butler, who helped Duffy co-write with her. She signed with A&M Records in 2007. She released a limited edition single, Rockferry, in November 2007, with a follow-up single, Mercy on February 17, 2008.
