Lil Wayne “Tha Carter III” Breaks Sales Record!

While everyone was watching Mariah Carey and Madonna’s album sales to see who would sell the most, rapper Lil Wayne slid in there and is projected to far surpass the ladies. Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter III” sold 423,000 copies in its first day alone, where as Mariah’s E=MC2 sold 463,000 copies in the first week. Lil Wayne is expected to sell 900,000 copies this week, which will be the best sales debut of the year.

“Tha Carter III” has been pushed back several times and singles were leaked on internationally over the span of about a year, but that did not seem to harm the “best rapper alive” sales. His hit single “Lollipop” has dominated the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, staying at number one for five consecutive weeks. The song has reached success in Canada making it #10, in the UK it reached #26 on downloads alone, in New Zealand it reached #3, and on the United World Chart it reached #6.

“Lollipop” is Lil Wayne’s most commercially successful single of his career, as it is his first top 10 single, his first #1 on the Hot Rap Tracks, and his first #1 on the Billboard charts.Lil Wayne’s previous albums, “Tha Carter” and “Tha Carter II” sold approximately 1.1 million and 1.4 million copies.
