Khia Edgerton (DJ K-Swift) Dies In Swimming Accident
DJ K-Swift (Khia Edgerton) died in a swimming accident this morning.Khia Edgerton was a popular DJ in her hometown of Baltimore, Maryland. She was dubbed “Club Queen K-Swift.” She worked at Baltimore’s Radio One 92Q, and was the only female in the country to hold the title of Female Mix Show Coordinator.
Khia Edgerton was born in Baltimore, Maryland on October 19, 1980. Influenced by Cocoa Channel and Jazzy Joyce and her father, she quickly fell in love with music. She began DJ’ ing at the young age of eleven, which gave her an edge over other DJs. She broke into the Baltimore’s music industry at the age of 18 when she was offered an internship at Radio One of Baltimore 92Q Jams.
K-Swift spent long hours working on her DJ skills and began producing shows for the station. All of her hard work paid off 2 years later when she became the first female DJ on 92Q. Her responsibilities grew at the station until she was finally a full time DJ, working the night show from 6-10 pm, which then became the number one night show in Baltimore.
Khia also started her own graphics company as well as a production and management company, Club Queen Entertainment. This allowed her to sell her own mix CD’s on her website. In addition, K-Swift was a member of the Violator-All Star DJ Coalition, and of the Murda Mami’s.Today, at the young age of 27, Khia Edgerton died in a swimming accident. Details have yet to be released, but Murda Mami founder 1st Lady El told AllHipHop.com,“I’m at a loss for words right now. K-Swift was not only one of my Murda Mami sisters, she was a great friend. She knocked down doors for women in this industry, so humble and hard working. Legendary in the club music scene and the number one DJ in Baltimore. She will be missed.”
