Caylee Sunshine Doll: Caylee Anthony Controversy
The tragic story of the missing little Florida girl, Caylee Anthony, has captured the attention of the world since her disappearance in June 2008. Human remains found near Caylee’s home were determined to be hers on December 19, 2008. The story is fascinating, but it is not without controversy.
Showbiz Promotions, a Florida company, has created a doll as a “tribute” to Caylee Anthony. Called the “Caylee Sunshine Doll”, she has blond hair and sells for $29.99. The doll plays the song “You Are My Sunshine”, inspired by the home video seen on the news of Caylee singing. The company insists that the doll is a tribute to the missing girl, stating on the website,
“The Caylee Sunshine Doll is a symbol of ‘every child’ in this world. Let us hold onto this doll to remind us that Caylee is safe in Heaven embraced in loving arms forever!”On January 27, 2009, the company wisely decided to pull the Caylee Sunshine Doll from shelves. Although they will still stickers, bracelets, and t-shirts with the sunshine message. Despite the company’s decision to donate 100% of the profits to an unnamed charity, there has been a public outcry about the release of the doll, understandably so. Therefore, sales have been suspended.
