Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps hit superstar status during the 2008 Summer Olympics in China when he won eight gold medals, five of which were for individual events. Now the champion swimmer is in the news again, but this time for a much less noble reason. Michael Phelps was supposedly photographed taking a bong hit.

Michael Phelps is 23 years old and in college at the University of Michigan. It’s the perfect time in your life to party uncontrollably, make ban decisions, and just have an all-around good time. He’s a college student, for Pete’s sake! But it sounds like he’s taken it too far. Not only has Phelps been caught smoking marijuana, there’s apparently a photo. (we are not convinced that this photo is actually a photo of Michael Phelps.)

This Michael Phelps bong incident could affect his swimming career. Although he’s never failed a drug test, there is a four-year band on participating in Olympic-sanctioned events if it’s shown that you’ve taken drugs. I don’t know if this alleged photo would do the trick, but if so, this could be the last we see of Phelps in a swimming pool.This isn’t Phelps’ first run-in with trouble. In 2004, before turning 21, he got a DUI. He calls it “a learning experience”. No doubt this latest mistake will be, too.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will perform during the Super Bowl halftime show on February 1st, 2009, in Tampa, Florida.If Super Bowl XLIII between the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers isn’t very good, and the commercials turn out to be duds, then at least the half time show will be fun because Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are playing the 12-minute gig.

More than 148 million viewers in the United States watched last year’s show. This season’s Super Bowl will be played in Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on Feb. 1. The halftime show will be broadcast worldwide in more than 230 countries and territories.

Other entertainment at Super Bowl 2009 includes Oscar-winning actress and singer Jennifer Hudson singing our national anthem and Grammy Award-winning country singer Faith Hill singing ‘America the Beautiful.’

'Hell's Kitchen' : Season 5 Premiere

It's the premiere of Season 5 of Hell's Kitchen, and this season Gordon Ramsay himself promises the most intense, most shocking season of the cooking competition yet. Which means one thing: some of this year's chefs are going to make him very, very angry. I can't wait!

But before we get to this year's crap-making “muppets,” the Hell's Kitchen producers want us to realize how tough the application process was this year. More than ever before, in the tens of thousands, chefs applied to undergo Ramsay's systematic culinary torture. 300 were invited to the set of HK to meet the man, and 16 from that pool were then chosen to compete for this year's grand prize: the executive chef position at a brand new fine-dining restaurant in the Borgata Resort in Atlantic City. Oh, and $250,000. So it's a pretty sweet gig. But it won't be easy to win.

The first challenge for our 16 castigation-seeking chefs: the Signature Dish Challenge. Ramsay's special spittoon stands ready by his side, and even though this cast of cooks has been deemed the best yet, the bin is still guaranteed to get some “unbelievable CRAP” spewed into it.

As always, this week’s Paris couture shows have been the stomping ground for stick-thin models with high cheek bones and clenched jaws.But Jean-Paul Gaultier is not one to abide by rules. Billy Powell ,Lynyrd Skynyrd Keyboard Player Is Dead at 56

Billy Powell, the only keyboardist Lynyrd Skynyrd ever had, died last night at his home near Jacksonville, Florida. He was 56. No cause of death has been announced, and a post on the official Synyrd Website reads, “A Great Loss — Beloved Pianist for the Lynyrd Skynyrd Band, Billy Powell, passed away last night. We will post more info shortly. The family and band request your respect and understanding during this difficult time.

Powell first joined Skynyrd in 1973 after serving as the band’s roadie for a year. His keyboard work features prominently on the band’s debut (pronounced ‘leh-’nerd ’skin-’nerd), with Powell credited for crafting the intro for their epic anthem “Free Bird” (Number 191 on Rolling Stone’s Greatest Songs of All Time). After impressing Ronnie Van Zant with his work on the song, Powell was officially invited to join the band, and remained a member from their debut album until 1977’s Street Survivors.

Powell survived the 1977 plane crash that took the lives of singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, backup singer Cassie Gaines and other crew members. Despite suffering injuries including facial lacerations and nearly losing his nose, Powell was the first to be discharged from the hospital and was the only member to attend his bandmates’ funerals. After Skynyrd, Powell joined the Christian rock band Vision, but reunited with Skynyrd after a decade-long hiatus for some concerts in 1989, and ultimately remained with the band until now.

Gwen Araujo is Murdered Transgender Teenager

Gwen Araujo was born Eddie Araujo, a transgender teenager who was murdered. Her story was told in a 2006 Lifetime movie called ‘A Girl Like Me.‘A Girl Like Me: The Gwen Araujo Story’ is a 2006 biography made-for-tv movie directed by award-winning director Agnieszka Holland and first aired on Lifetime Television.

It’s a really tragic story that documents the real life of Gwen Araujo, who was born Eddie Araujo, Jr., a transgender teenager who was murdered by four men in Newark, California after it was discovered she had male genitalia. Scenes from the ‘A Girl Like Me’ movie depicting the murder trial are shown alternating with the story of Gwen’s life.

The four men who killed Gwen Araujo, two of whom she had been sexually intimate with, beat her for hours then strangled her, dumping her in a remote area in the mountains. Two of the defendants were convicted of second-degree murder, but not convicted on the requested hate crime enhancements. The other two defendants pleaded guilty or no contest to voluntary manslaughter. In at least one of the trials, a ‘trans panic defense’ - an extension of the gay panic defense - was employed.

The crime received widespread national and international attention and prompted questions as to whether transgender people were being represented fairly and accurately in both mass media and the criminal justice system. It was this case which became the impetus for law reform movements in several states.At Araujo’s mother’s request, a judge posthumously changed Araujo’s legal name from Eddie to Gwen on June 23, 2004.The movie ‘A Girl Like Me: The Gwen Araujo Story’ stars JD Pardo as Eddie/Gwen, Mercedes Ruehl as her mother, and Avan Jogia as her brother, Danny.

The late Heath Ledger was nominated posthumously for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his brilliant performance as The Joker in ‘The Dark Knight.’ He was favored to win, and did win, with fellow cast member Gary Oldman accepting the award on his behalf. He is also the winner of the Golden Globe and has received an Oscar nod.



Other notable nominees include Viola Davis for her supporting role in ‘Doubt’ (she also received the Best Supporting Oscar nod) and Meryl Streep for her leading role in the same movie. Streep went on to win the award and Davis lost to Kate Winslet (for her performance in ‘The Reader.’Legendary actor James Earl Jones received the SAG Life Achievement Award, with Forest Whitaker as the presenter. The award is given annually to recognize “outstanding achievement in fostering the finest ideals of the acting profession.” SAG’s National Honors and Tributes Committee is responsible for nomination and voting of the winner.

Chelsy Davy Is Prince Harry’s Girlfriend

Meet Chelsy Davy. She has been Prince Harry’s girlfriend for almost five years and now there is word they’re splitting up again.It seems that Prince Harry, who’s 24, and his longtime girlfriend, Chelsy Davy, have broken up. The reason is reportedly his ‘womanizing‘ ways and spending too much time away from her! Chelsy Yvonne Davy was born October 13, 1985 in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe so her age is 23. She is currently a law student but is best known as the girlfriend of Prince Harry of Wales, the younger son of Charles, Prince of Wales, and his first wife, Diana, Princess of Wales. Chelsy, because of her relationship with Prince Harry, has gotten worldwide attention, especially from the tabloids.

Chelsy’s dad is a millionaire safari operator in Zimbabwe. She grew up at her family’s homestead in the Lemco Safari Area. Chelsy is definitely a party girl and is known to hit all the clubs regularly.Chelsy went to school at Girls College in Bulawayo, Cheltenham College, and Stowe School. She graduated from the University of Cape Town in November 2006 with a degree in Economics.

After graduating from the University of Cape Town, she took a few months off to travel the world with her friends and her brother Shaun. Phillip Klein on Dateline NBC To Uncover Patrick Kim McDermott Disappearance

Private investigator Philip Klein, founder of Nederland-based Klein Investigations and Consulting, was featured Sunday in an hour-long Dateline special on NBC detailing his efforts to uncover the truth behind the disappearance of Patrick Kim McDermott.McDermott, a former boyfriend of singer Olivia Newton-John, vanished in 2005 after leaving San Pedro, Calif., for a fishing trip.

Dateline producers first came into contact with Klein, whose company routinely investigates cases where children are taken by their non-custodial parents, after interviewing him for another story."Phillip's an interesting guy and it seemed like a waste to just interview this guy once," Dateline producer Joe Delmonico told The Enterprise by phone. "We asked him to take a fresh look at the case and followed him from his office, to Los Angeles, and all the way to Mexico."

McDermott's case was investigated by the Coast Guard, Delmonico said, but no answer emerged. For the past few years it has remained a mystery as to whether McDermott fell overboard, jumped, or whether he "made himself disappear," Delmonico indicated.According to a Web site set up by Klein, FindPatrickMcDermott.com, McDermott joined 21 others on the fishing trip and was seen by at least one witness departing the vessel and entering the pier parking lot after the trip concluded and was not reported missing July 6 after failing to attend a family event. Witnesses, the Web site states, have since reported seeing McDermott in Mexico.

Klein said by phone Thursday that he could not discuss any particulars of the investigation per agreement with Dateline.Overall, he said, though he had some initial concerns about how he might be portrayed, he soon discovered that the Dateline crew was very professional and enjoyed working with them.

Katie Stam,Miss Indiana Crowned Miss America 2009

Katie Stam, a 22 year old from Seymour Indiana is Miss America 2009. She is Indiana’s first Miss America.Battling laryngitis and a throat infection, she sang a rendition of Via Dolorosa.Katie is a Senior at the University of Indianapolis where she is known for her “scholarship, leadership and volunteer work.” Miss Stam is working toward her BA in Communications and hopes to become a television news reporter and anchor. Her platform is “promoting community service and involvement.”

The Miss America pageant aired live on TLC from from The Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Paradise, NV. The all-too-darling Mario Lopez was host.Miss Stam was one of three preliminary fitness and swimsuit winners. As usual, the Swimsuit competition was a hot topic - and not just in the United States.The UK’s Daily Mail refers to our ladies as “beefy.” The Brits believe the contest is losing it’s “girl next door” identity.

Since losing network sponsorship several years ago, the pageant has floundered but recently began gaining credibility once again. While many see the contest as a beauty pageant, the participants see it as an education, a chance at the world stage to further their talent or careers, and a vehicle for raising funds for their chosen platform. Art McMaster, president of Miss America, said the 1998 winner, Kate Shindle raised $20-$30 million for AIDS during her reign.

Katie Stam goes home with $50,000 in scholarship monies, plus another $1,000 for winning the preliminary swimsuit and fitness award, and perhaps other awards accrued along the road to becoming Miss America 2009.While this Miss America win is a first for Indiana, they’ve been close. Last year’s Miss Indiana, Nicole Rash, was first runner-up in 2008. Chastity Hardman, Miss Georgia is 2009’s first runner-up.

Today’s Miss America logs 20,000 miles a month and she propels through a location change every 18-36 hours.Three states hold the honors for the most Miss America winners: California, Oklahoma, and Ohio are tied with six winners each.Nineteen states hold no Miss America titles: Alaska, Delaware, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Vermont, Virgin Islands, Washington, West Virginia and Wyoming.

Lindsay Lohan Sexy Interview Magzine Photos

Lindsay Lohan seems to have been off the movie map for awhile. If I hadn’t watched “Mean Girls” on ABC Family the other day, it might have been years since I watched a Lohan movie. That could be because I missed “I Know Who Killed Me”, but I’m not alone on that one. Although she does have two movies in the making (”Labor Pains” and “Dare to Love Me”), we’ve barely heard about them. And Lindsay says the reason is everyone’s focus on her personal life.



In the February issue of Interview magazine, Lindsay poses for some gorgeous black and white photos and opens up about her recent career struggles. It’s been frustrating for her to watch other actresses get role after role while she has to work hard to undo the reputation she has carved out for herself. “What hurts me the most is that I work just as hard as any other actress around my age, like Scarlett Johansson, but I just don’t get the opportunities that they get because people are so distracted by the mess that I created in my life.”



That mess includes a jail stint and a couple drunk driving incidents, along with some trouble on set that led to a public reprimand from a film executive. But what people see isn’t the reality; that Lindsay we used to know isn’t who she is anymore. “The worst part is, in terms of what people see of me, I have become this girl who just loves to be photographed, doesn’t know how to focus, doesn’t know how to work on set, just loves the attention, knows how to go out at night, knows how to party. And you know what? I was 20 years old. I never went to college. And I lived maybe six months out of my life like that, doing something wrong, and then I stopped. God forbid I should have ever learned my lesson.”


The most recent drama surrounding Lindsay involves Samantha Ronson and the question of “are they or aren’t they” and “did they break up or are they back together”. But just to keep the topic in the public eye, news has broken that they have a joint bank account now. I can see where that would distract from rebuilding a career.

Miss America 2009 Airs Live Tonight

The finals and crowning of 2009 Miss America pageant will televise live on the TLC network on Saturday night in Las Vegas.With significant scholarships awarded to the winner, the coveted title will be competed among 52 candidates. The champion will represent the United States to run for Miss Universe this year.



It's the first time for four contestants in top 15 to be voted into the pageant finals by audience of "Miss America: Countdown to the Crown." The first pageant dated back to 1921 as an Atlantic City Chamber of Commerce initiative to extend the local tourist season. After 88 years, this pageant for beauty, brain and drive keeps evolving and will make big differences.President and general manager for TLC Angela Shapiro-Mathes said "As viewers watch 'Miss America: Reality Check' they'll get to know the contestants in a way that they never have before. The entire competition becomes more relevant to today's audience as they vote and root for their favorites at the live finale."

Miss World Finalist Mariana Bridi da Costa Is Dead (Photos& Video)

Brazilian model and beauty queen contestant Mariana Bridi da Costa, 20, has died of complications resulting from a mysterious illness that developed in December. Her death was reported to have occurred on Saturday morning, January 24, 2009. She suffered a heart attack that was brought on by necrotic septicemia.

Mariana first sought treatment in December 2008 for what was believed to be kidney stones. Her condition deteriorated in January and doctors were forced to amputate her hands and feet in an attempt to stem the rapidly spreading infection that was causing the premature death of her cells and tissue.The Brazilian beauty was a finalist in her country’s stage of the Miss World competition. She also participated in the 2007 Miss Bikini International competition.

The Sun UK adds that "her boyfriend Thiago Simoes said 20-year-old Mariana fell ill on December 30 – but was initially misdiagnosed with kidney stones." The Herald report adds, "Bridi was diagnosed with a infection by the Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacterium, which can often prove fatal. Septicemia set in in her limbs, cutting off circulation and forcing doctors to amputate."

Oscars 2009 : ''Benjamin Button'' & ''Slumdog Millionaire'' Lead Nominations

With 13 nominations — including Best Picture, Best Actor (Brad Pitt), Best Supporting Actress (Taraji P. Henson), and Best Director (David Fincher) — The Curious Case of Benjamin Button leads the field of Academy Award contenders announced this morning in Los Angeles. As expected, Slumdog Millionaire scored big too, nabbing 10 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director (Danny Boyle), and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Not surprisingly, Heath Ledger was recognized for his supporting role in The Dark Knight, but a widely anticipated Best Picture nomination didn't happen, and director Christopher Nolan came up empty as well. Other notable snubs: Clint Eastwood and Leonardo DiCaprio's turns in Gran Torino and Revolutionary Road, respectively. While enjoying the sun and sand, Victoria’s Secret and Sports Illustrated model Marisa Miller experienced a wardrobe malfunction that resulted in a nip slip.Swimsuit and lingerie hottie Marisa Miller was enjoying the warmth and sun in St. Barts. There for a Victoria’s Secret swimsuit photo shoot, she took some time off to have some fun in the warm surf. This spelled disaster for her striped bandeau bikini top. Lie To Me Premieres On Fox Tonight

If there's one thing we know about the American television landscape, it's that there just aren't enough procedurals on the air. And while CBS has managed to snatch most of them up before anyone else can get their hands on one, it looks like FOX managed to sneak one by the almighty Eye. And as with most crime dramas of this sort, it must differentiate itself from the others by having a little twist all its own. Lie to Me offers that twist in the form of Tim Roth's character, Cal Lightman, who is essentially a human lie detector.

Loosely based on the findings of author and professor of psychology Paul Ekman, FOX was kind enough to send along Ekman's book, Telling Lies, with the pilot so I could follow along and see which of his strategies were used on the show. Yeah, I didn't do that.There may not be a person alive who's analyzed the art of lying and the liar more than Ekman, so certainly the show is in capable hands with him involved. FOX may just have a successful formula established here and could have another House-sized hit on their hands. Find out for yourself when the pilot drops tonight (1/21/09) at 9/8 Central.

Joanna Pacitti Advanced to 'Hollywood Week' on American Idol

Joanna Pacitti, who was hired and then fired from the 20th anniversary production of Annie advanced on tonight's American Idol to Hollywood Week after singing the Pat Benatar classic "We Belong".The eighth season kicks off with three weeks of audition episodes, featuring tryouts held in East Rutherford, NJ; Jacksonville, FL; Kansas City, MO; Louisville, KY; Phoenix, AZ; Salt Lake City, UT; San Francisco, CA; and San Juan, Puerto Rico. After the two-night premiere, auditions will continue for two weeks on Tuesday, Jan. 20 and Wednesday, Jan. 21; and Tuesday, Jan. 27 and Wednesday, Jan. 28 .The final audition episode will air Thursday, Jan. 29 on FOX.

The lucky auditioners who get the judges' approval then move on to the "Hollywood Round" where contestants vie for a semifinalist position during the grueling next phase of the auditions. Extended for one week, the "Hollywood Round" episodes air: Tuesday, Feb. 3 ; Wednesday, Feb. 4 ; and Tuesday, Feb. 10 . On Wednesday, Feb. 11, dreams come true for three dozen hopefuls, as Simon, Randy, Paula and Kara announce the Top 36 semifinalists.

It will then be up to America to decide who moves forward in the competition. For three consecutive Tuesdays including: Feb. 17, Feb. 24 and March 3 , 12 different semifinalists will perform each night in the hopes of moving on to the Top 12. Each week during the LIVE results shows airing Wednesdays: Feb. 18 , Feb. 25 and March 4 , the three finalists with the highest number of America's votes will secure coveted spots in the Top 12.

On Thursday, March 5 , AMERICAN IDOL presents a special "Wild Card" episode featuring the judges favorite remaining contestants. After each of the contestants perform, the judges will select the three final contestants who will round out the Top 12.The competition heats up as those Top 12 finalists take the stage for the first time together Tuesday, March 10. Immediately following, America has another chance to share its voice and vote for their favorite finalists.

Victoria and David Beckham team up for the newest Armani Underwear ad.Soccer stud David Beckham and Spice girl wife Posh Victoria Beckham are steaming up a billboard together for Armani underwear. Just revealed in Milan, where David is currently playing soccer, the duo are pictured larger than life in an intimate bedroom scene. Victoria is seen sitting on the floor in a sexy black lace and polka dot bra, while hot husband David is laying on his stomach in bed behind her in a pair of tighty whities.



The black and white billboard, which marks the pair’s first Armani ad together, was unveiled just in time for men’s fashion week in the Italian fashion capital. David and Victoria have each posed separately for Armani, David’s ads making a big splash in 2008 and Victoria’s ads debuting about a week ago. Their deal with Armani is rumored to be worth about $68 million.

Here are pictures of American Idol’s Adam Lambert. Adam Lambert hit up American Idol but is currently in WICKED. Lambert can sing, really sing. Adam Lambert clearly was liked by all four American Idol judges - who all agreed he had a great voice and seemed to really enjoy him personally too.

Adam Lambert showed up on American Idol San Fransisco auditions and with a strong performance of the Queen hit "Bohemian Rhapsody" Lambert received four yes's for him to move forward in the show. Adam Lambert is use to being in the spotlight for he has appeared on stage for the Broadway show Wicked and also had a role in The Ten Commandments. I am not sure how big of a fan Paula Abdul is going to be after Adam mentioned that he saw the American Idol judge in concert when he was ten.

President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama Danced at the Inaugural Ball

Moments before the first dance at the first inaugural ball, President Obama emerged onstage Tuesday hand in hand with his wife, Michelle, who glittered in a floor-length ivory one-shoulder gown.The latest on the inauguration of Barack Obama and other news from Washington and around the nation. So began a marathon of ball-going for the first couple that went on into the early morning hours on Wednesday.The balls capped off a seemingly endless day of photographs, speeches, parades and handshakes for the new president and first lady.Both the Obamas and Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and his wife, Jill, vowed to attend all 10 official balls, and they began just after 8:30 on a frigid Washington evening. The parties were scattered across the city, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center downtown, the Washington Hilton in Dupont Circle, the National Building Museum, the National Guard Armory and Union Station. The Obamas’ daughters, Malia and Sasha, did not show up at any of the balls, but their mother told ABC News that they would not go back to school until Thursday.

After the Neighborhood Ball, a $25-a-head party that was meant to make the evening accessible to just about anyone, the Obamas walked upstairs at the convention center to the Obama Home States Ball, a party for residents of Illinois and Hawaii.

Michelle Obama Sizzles In Jason Wu Gown for Inaugural Balls

First Lady Michelle Obama stuck with her penchant for going off the beaten fashion path by picking emerging designer Jason Wu for her inaugural ballgown.The cream-colored one-shouldered dress, which had a fitted bodice and flared skirt, was a surprising pick for the First Lady, who has typically worn striking shades such as crimson or plum during key political appearances. Mr. Wu, a 26-year-old designer who was born in Taipei, has been designing for just a few years and only recently got picked up by major stores like Nordstrom.

Although only 26, the Taipei native has already achieved many accomplishments. His family moved to Vancouver when Wu was 9 where he began learning how to sew, draft patterns, and sketch in fashion proportions by using dolls as mannequins. At the age of 14, he went to study sculpture in Tokyo and then spent his senior year of high school in Paris, where he decided to become a fashion designer. Wu then enrolled in the prestigious Parsons School of Design and interned with Narciso Rodriguez.

In February 2006 he debuted his collection, emerging as one of the leading new American talents. The Jason Wu collection is carried at Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Ikram, Nordstrom, Susan of Burlingame and Louis Boston. The fashion star is a favorite among press, stylists and celebrities including Amber Valetta, Leighton Meester, Joy Bryant, Gretchen Mol and Kerry Washington.By contrast, Jill Biden seemed to have chosen something — a red Fleurette coat and a belted glen plaid dress by Milly — that she might have worn any day.
